With Toledo starting quarterback Mitch Guadagni unable to participate in practices early in the week leading up to Saturday’s Bowling Green matchup after suffering a concussion in the previous game, sophomore Eli Peters figured he might be called upon to start his first career game.
Although he was not formally told he would start in the rivalry game early in the week, Peters prepared as if he would do so.
“All week Mitch wasn’t really practicing,” he said. “Nothing was said verbatim to me, but I took it upon myself to just prepare like I was starting and I ended up starting, so I just got in my routine all week and that didn’t change.
