The University of Toledo did not hear its name called during the NCAA women’s basketball tournament selection show.
But the Rockets aren’t done playing yet.
Their season will be extended by at least one game in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. The bracket is not revealed until 9 p.m., but UT is an automatic qualifier via its Mid-American Conference championship.
The first round is Thursday.
This is the first year of the NCAA-owned WBIT, which replaces the WNIT in the postseason pecking order. The 32-team event features the first four teams out of the NCAA tournament, regular-season conference champions that did not win their conference tournament titles, and at-large teams selected by a committee.
