Offseason optimism has morphed into real-life results for the Toledo women’s basketball program.
The Rockets earned their second consecutive win to open the 2021-22 season on Saturday, drubbing Wright State 73-56 in the home opener at Savage Arena thanks to a fierce defensive effort that limited the Raiders to 30.9 percent shooting.
“It’s fun to watch this team come together,” Toledo coach Tricia Cullop said. “It’s nice to know we have versatility and depth. Good things are ahead.”
The game was tied at seven midway through the first quarter before Toledo outscored Wright State 34-15 over the final 15 minutes of the first half, surging to a 41-22 halftime lead.
