KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — For the first time in six years, the Toledo women’s basketball team will play an NCAA tournament game.
It’s the culmination of an entire year of determination for the Rockets, who went 19-1 in the Mid-American Conference last season, only to lose in the MAC tournament semifinals and lose out on an NCAA tournament bid.
They find themselves paired with fifth-seeded Iowa State, the No. 17-ranked team in the country and a group with size, size, and more size. No. 12 seed Toledo is at a disadvantage, but life for 12 seeds isn’t all bad: at least one has advanced to the second round in seven of the past 10 tournaments.
