Eli Enriquez has an athletic gift: speed.
In sports, perhaps no skill is as coveted as speed. Quickness often differentiates ordinary from spectacular, whether running around the basepaths, alluding would-be tacklers, or swinging a golf club.
“If you have speed on your team,” Toledo softball coach Jessica Bracamonte said, “that opens up so many more opportunities for you on offense.”
Look no further than Sunday afternoon at Scott Park. Enriquez was 60 feet from home plate when the ball bounded away from Buffalo’s catcher, allowing her to race home and complete a walk-off victory.
The Rockets’ speed starts with Enriquez, a shortstop who blazes from first base to second base and everywhere in between.
