AKRON — The seventh-seeded University of Toledo softball team recorded an early upset in the Mid-American Conference softball tournament, defeating No. 2 seed Kent State 4-2 on Wednesday at Firestone Stadium.
Toledo (24-25) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Aubrey Reed’s home run. The Rockets did not trail after that, adding two more runs in the sixth on solo homers by Katie Cozy and Kaitlyn Bergman.
Sophomore Erin Hunt (12-11) pitched a three-hitter for the Rockets, striking out five and walking none. Andrea Scali (19-8) took the loss for Kent State.
