AKRON — The University of Toledo found themselves in a big hole early, trailing 6-0 after two innings of play Thursday before falling to Ohio University 7-1 in a Mid-American Conference softball tournament second-round winner’s bracket game at Firestone Stadium.
The loss drops the Rockets (24-26) into the loser’s bracket, where they will face Northern Illinois (27-24) at a time to be determined Friday. The tournament is backed up because of inclement weather. Thursday’s final game between Kent State and Ball State was called in the third inning and will resume at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The Bobcats (33-19) struck quickly against UT starting pitcher Heather Webb.
