With the 2020 season cut short because of the coronavirus pandemic, the University of Toledo softball team is technically still the defending Mid-American Conference champion.
And to get that honor, the Rockets had to make a Cinderella run through the 2019 conference tournament as a No. 7 seed.
However, that epic journey to the NCAA tournament will no longer be possible. The MAC announced Tuesday there will be no more conference tournaments for softball and baseball, as well as men's and women's soccer, field hockey, men's and women's tennis, and women's lacrosse.
In addition, baseball and softball will transition to a 30-game conference season.
