Toledo reacts to NCAA vote allowing extra eligibility for spring sports athletes

The NCAA Division I Council voted Monday to allow an extra year of eligibility to spring sport athletes who had their season cut short due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Most University of Toledo spring athletes saw their spring seasons canceled prior to even reaching Mid-American Conference play.

The NCAA Division I Council denied extra eligibility for winter sports athletes as most teams were close to completing their seasons.

“I think that was something that we kind of saw coming,” Toledo senior associate AD for compliance Brian Lutz said. “If you look at the season and where they were with most of them not even having the opportunity to get into conference season at the point which everything shut down, I think that was pretty much expected.
