The University of Toledo football team saw any chances of a Mid-American Conference title game appearance take a major hit with a 31-28 loss to Northern Illinois on Wednesday night at the Glass Bowl.
Toledo, which trailed 28-7 entering the fourth quarter, came back to tie the game at 28-28 with five minutes left, but Northern Illinois kicker Josh Richardson nailed a 25-yard field goal with 41 seconds left.
Toledo drove late, but quarterback Eli Peters hit Shakif Seymour underneath and the Rockets could not get up to the line quick enough to spike the ball and set up a potential game-tying field goal.
