RICHMOND, Va. — A signature nonconference victory went poof for Toledo.
Richmond needed all of five minutes to trim a 19-point deficit to one, turning the 7,201-seat Robins Center into a rock concert. The Spiders led by as many as seven in the final eight minutes, then lost the lead, and retook it for good on a Jacob Gilyard 3 with 34 seconds left.
The 72-69 setback for the Rockets will sting.
“I’ve been better,” Toledo coach Tod Kowalczyk said after the game. “We turned it over too much, which led to their transition. I thought their full-court pressure sped us up and we turned it over and gave them open 3s.
