The 2021-22 Toledo men’s basketball team picked up where the 2020-21 Rockets left off.
The defending Mid-American Conference champions christened the MAC schedule with an 83-56 bulldozing of Western Michigan on Wednesday at Savage Arena.
J.T. Shumate had a game-high 22 points with a career-high 11 rebounds and five assists. Ryan Rollins had 20 points and a career-high five steals.
They combined to shoot 69.5 percent from the field while making seven of 10 3-point attempts.
A fast start, which has been the norm for UT most of the season, turned the game’s result into a formality midway through the first half.
