NASSAU, Bahamas — The college bowl experience of University of Toledo coach Jason Candle got off to a roaring start when he took over as Rockets head coach in the 2015 Boca Raton Bowl.
In his first game as head coach following Matt Campbell’s departure to Iowa State, Candle and Toledo scored an upset win over No. 24 Temple and in the pouring rain Candle and the Rockets were able to hoist a bowl trophy.
If only it were always that easy. Since then, Toledo has flamed out in its past two bowl games, a heartbreaking 31-28 loss to Appalachian State in the 2016 Camellia Bowl and a blowout 34-0 loss against the Mountaineers in the Dollar General Bowl last season.
