Toledo has hired Derek Sage to be its tight ends coach, a source told The Blade.
Sage replaces Mark Staten, who retired following the 2023 season.
Sage was the offensive coordinator at Nevada the previous two seasons. The California native was UT’s wide receivers coach from 2014 to 2016 under Matt Campbell and Jason Candle.
The Chip Kelly disciple also worked at New Hampshire (WR, 2005-09), Wyoming (WR, 2010-13), Washington State (WR, 2017), and UCLA (TE/special teams 2018-21). Kelly was the offensive coordinator at New Hampshire and head coach at UCLA.
At New Hampshire, Sage coached David Bell, who set the NCAA record with 58 career touchdown receptions.
