The improved University of Toledo football defense is set for a test in its Week 1 matchup against Norfolk State on Saturday night at the Glass Bowl.
Opposing quarterback Juwan Carter is the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason offensive player of the year and was named to a watch list for the Walter Payton award, the FCS version of the Heisman Trophy.
For a Rockets defense that improved exponentially last season, Carter presents an intriguing challenge.
“We’ve got to do a great job of keeping him in the pocket, limiting the lanes where you allow him to escape, and get out on the perimeter, and make plays with his legs,” Toledo coach Jason Candle said.
