The University of Toledo is in the midst of its most successful stretch in more than two decades.
The last time the Rockets appeared in consecutive Mid-American Conference championship games was 2001-02. They will aim for a third straight trip to Detroit this year in the first division-less MAC season since 1996.
Despite heavy losses, including a first-round NFL draft pick, the expectations are not tempered. Fans are not planning for a significant drop off after last year’s 8-0 MAC record, which was part of an 11-game winning streak.
The month of September will be revealing, even though the two biggest games won’t count in the conference standings -- road trips to Mississippi State and Western Kentucky.
