HAMDEN, CT - The Toledo soccer team dropped their season opener 2-1 at the Quinnipiac Soccer Fieldd on Friday afternoon in central Connecticut. With the loss Toledo falls to 0-1-0 on the season while Quinnipiac jumps to a 1-0-0 record to start the season.
Redshirt freshman Kelsey Kraft scored the lone goal for the Rockets on a 71st minute header. Shelby Gillespie, another redshirt freshman, was credited with the assist as she crossed the ball into the air from the right wing to Kraft on the left side of the box.
The two teams played a scoreless first half but Toledo came threateningly close to scoring when Natalie Knauf ripped a shot from outside the box that sailed just high of the crossbar.
