Toledo coach Candle addresses Fair Pay to Play Act

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed the Fair Pay to Play Act that makes California the first state to allow student athletes to profit off of their name, image, and likeness.

The law will take effect in 2023 and will also allow college athletes to hire licensed agents to represent them.

This California law, in defiance of the NCAA, could change the course of college athletics in the coming years. There has long been a debate of whether or not college athletes should be paid, and while this law does not call for payment of student athletes, it does address a key issue when it comes to the rights of NCAA athletes.
