The 2020-21 and 2021-22 University of Toledo men’s basketball seasons are unfolding as if they’re mirror images.
The Rockets have occupied first place for a considerable period of time and own a similar overall record. How have they managed to win at an 80 percent clip despite losing the conference player of the year and the nation’s second-ranked 3-point shooter?
Talented returning players, a difference-making transfer point guard, and coaching all factor into UT sitting atop the Mid-American Conference. Wisdom is another element to Toledo’s success, allowing the Rockets to take it day-by-day, game-by-game.
“It’s a mature group that understands this is a process,” Toledo coach Tod Kowalczyk said.
