Coming into Saturday’s game at Eastern Michigan, University of Toledo senior receiver Cody Thompson knew he was one touchdown catch shy of becoming the program’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions.
The record-breaking catch didn’t come until Toledo quarterback Mitch Guadagni found Thompson for an 18-yard strike in the corner of the end zone early in the fourth quarter.
For Thompson, the ultimate competitor, the 28-26 loss overshadowed his record, so much so that the fact that he had set the record slipped his mind after the game until he got a text from a friend congratulating him.
