TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior guard Sophia Wiard of the Toledo women's basketball team was named Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday. A business major, Wiard holds a 3.875 cumulative GPA.
Wiard stuffed the box score in Toledo's victories over Miami and Akron last week. The Muskegon, Mich. native averaged 13.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 5.0 APG to help move UT to 11-1 in conference play. Her best performance came at Akron on Saturday; Wiard tallied her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Toledo to a come-from-behind victory against the Zips.
