BOWLING GREEN — At the beginning of the Battle of I-75 rivalry on Saturday at Doyt Perry Stadium it seemed that for one team, whatever could go wrong did go wrong.
A fumble on a quarterback-running back exchange on the opponent's 5-yard line. Not one, but two muffed kickoffs that set up possessions starting at the 1-yard line. A blocked punt and a blocked field goal.
In a strange twist of fate it was Toledo – the team carrying the nine-game win streak in the rivalry and the team favored by as much as 27 points – that self-destructed on the way to a 20-7 loss to Bowling Green as the Falcons earned their first win in the rivalry game since 2009.
