Toledo, Ohio— Senior pitcher Sam Shutes has been named MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 5-11, the league office announced on Thursday.
Shutes was terrific in his start last Sunday. He threw six scoreless innings in the 7-2 win over Sacred Heart at the LSU Baseball Invitational and struck out a career-high 11 batters. Shutes allowed just two hits, the fewest in a start in his career, and walked one. He recorded a strikeout in all six innings and struck out the side twice. It was the fourth time in his career he held an opponent scoreless in a start of at least five innings.
