For an aspiring college football player, the desire to play for the local university can manifest itself in different ways.
For 17 Toledo-area players on the University of Toledo football team this year, each has had a unique path to playing for the hometown Rockets.
When senior defensive lineman Nate Childress was offered a scholarship to Toledo from former coach Matt Campbell, he was ready to commit on the spot.
Childress, a Rossford grad, grew up dreaming of playing for the hometown college.
“Coming out of high school, I had like five or six offers,” Childress said.
