Parity in MAC keeps top team from emerging

By this time of the year, less than a month away from selection Sunday, most basketball conferences have established some sort of hierarchy.

Then there is the Mid-American Conference, where observers know little more about the league structure than before the season started.

Before Monday night’s games, 30 of 32 conferences had at least one team separated from its pack — a team that had won fewer than 25 percent of its league games or a team that had won more than 75 percent. Most conferences had both.

The MAC has neither.

Currently, five teams are tied for second place in the MAC.
