On Tuesday morning, Mike O’Brien packed his bags, said goodbye to his wife, Michelle, and drove 224 miles to his new home in Indianapolis: the J.W. Marriott, where he will spend the next five weeks.
The University of Toledo athletic director, a member of the NCAA tournament selection committee, will be spending the duration of March Madness in Indianapolis, only leaving his posh hotel to attend games, turning it into a real-life Hotel California.
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
“Let’s see, Mr. O’Brien, you are here for 28 days,” the front desk attendant said upon his arrival.
