New energy is key for the Toledo defense

When Toledo football topped Bowling Green 38-3 on Wednesday, they accomplished something that no other Rocket defense had in 15 years.

The three points the defense relinquished were the fewest allowed by Toledo against an FBS opponent since Oct. 8, 2005 when it held Eastern Michigan to three points as well.

“I didn’t know that,” Toledo defensive coordinator Vince Kehres said of the stat. “It definitely makes me feel good. The game reinforced what I hoped would occur, that our guys would play fast, play with confidence, play with enthusiasm, look like they're having fun and enjoying themselves while having the opportunity to play the game of football and hopefully executing at a high level.
