NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Desjuan Johnson thought his heartache against Bowling Green was in the past.
But then he attended the Lowsman Banquet at Cannery Seaford, a Newport Beach institution that sits off the Lido Peninsula.
The event is part roast, part celebration of Mr. Irrelevant, and just as luck would have it, former University of Southern California and Cleveland Browns quarterback Paul McDonald was part of the festivities. The Newport Beach resident stepped to the podium to narrate Johnson’s University of Toledo highlights when something else entirely appeared on the projector screens located throughout the restaurant: BGSU quarterback Matt McDonald’s four touchdown passes against the Rockets last season, including a crushing game-winner in the final seconds.
