Conference realignment has reached the University of Toledo.
Mid-American Conference commissioner Jon Steinbrecher informed member schools on Thursday that the Mountain West notified the MAC about its interest in adding Toledo and Northern Illinois as football-only members. Steinbrecher is hopeful that UT and NIU will remain in the MAC.
Official conversations have yet to take place between the Mountain West and Toledo.
Steinbrecher, UT interim president Matthew Schroeder, and UT athletic director Bryan Blair were unavailable for comment.
Mountain West commissioner Gloria Nevarez has been scrambling to add teams in the wake of last week’s raid by the Pac-12, which took Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State.
