Savage Arena is bustling with members of the Sammi Mikonowicz fan club during every Toledo women’s basketball game.
She estimates that there are 15 to 20 family and friends at every home game. Their cheers are always among the loudest, but never more so than during Mikonowicz’s career game on Saturday.
In a first-place versus first-place matchup, the Rossford native had a career-high-tying 24 points to help lead the Rockets past Ball State, 70-48. It was a virtuoso performance for one of the most popular athletes at the entire university — 10-of-14 shooting, five rebounds, four steals, three assists, and one blocked shot.
