CLEVELAND — The offseason for the University of Toledo began in South Florida.
In January, head coach Jason Candle was linked to the offensive coordinator opening at the University of Miami. Mario Cristobal was building a powerhouse staff and wanted Candle to lead the offense. For a few days, there was a feeling of inevitability that Candle would leave his home of 13 years for a fresh start.
Ultimately, he decided to stay in the city where he has spent a quarter of his life to continue leading a roster he’s built to win another Mid-American Conference championship, setting the tone for the 2022 season.
