YPSILANTI — The second weekend in February was a reminder to the Mid-American Conference’s three first-place teams that winning on the road doesn’t come easy.
On Friday, Akron lost at Ohio and Kent State struggled at Buffalo. It was Toledo’s turn Saturday with a trip to Eastern Michigan, where it took the Rockets all 40 minutes to shake the Eagles.
Toledo’s 70-63 win kept pace with the Golden Flashes, who own the tiebreaker over the Rockets.
UT had its second-worst shooting day of the season (39.3 percent), but Eastern wasn’t much better (40 percent), as the style of play couldn’t have differed more from the teams’ wild 84-79 shootout at Savage Arena in January.
