First-year University of Toledo softball coach Joe Abraham is a big believer in not overworking players during what is a long grind of a season.
While Abraham has allowed his team time to lift weights, condition and practice during the season, he wanted a team that was fresh mentally and physically for the stretch run of the season when games matter the most.
That seemed to work out perfectly. Toledo finished the regular season on a tear, winning 13 of its last 17 games, and then built off that by winning six of its seven Mid-American Conference tournament games on the way to the program’s first-ever conference tournament title.
