TOLEDO, OH - Sophomore Jaelan Sanford has been named the Mid-American Conference's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
A management major with a 3.355 grade-point average, Sanford helped the Rockets to a pair of victories to open the Mid-American Conference season last week by averaging 22.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Sanford was extremely efficient for the Rockets as he posted a 59.3 field-goal percentage (16-of-27), a 57.1 three-point FG% (4-of-7) and an 80.0 free-throw percentage (16-of-20).
Sanford tallied 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 3-of-5 from three-point range to help UT to an 88-56 triumph over Buffalo on Tuesday to give the Midnight Blue and Gold its largest margin of victory ever in a conference opener.
