It was love at first sight for Vinny Sciury and Mike Hallett.
The all-state defensive tackle and the University of Toledo offensive line coach had an instant connection during the recruiting process, so much so that Sciury was sold on playing out of position for the Rockets.
“I saw Desjuan Johnson and I was like, yeah, I see why I’m playing guard,” Sciury said.
Sciury did play on the offensive line at Massillon Perry, but the Panthers, under legendary coach Keith Wakefield, ran the Wing-T, essentially giving Sciury zero experience in pass protection. That wasn’t a bad thing, though.
