On Toledo’s first series against Massachusetts, the Rockets faced fourth-and-6 from their own 38-yard line. Finn, UT’s do-it-all quarterback, didn’t even walk toward the sideline after third down. He looked toward his head coach, who talked into his headset while assistant coaches and backup quarterbacks signaled in the next play.
This is becoming the norm in college football and the NFL, as analytics, potent offenses, and aggressive play calls dominate the sport.
“You wouldn’t go into the [boxing] ring without your gloves on,” Candle said. “Do you want to fight or not?
