The University of Toledo women’s basketball team made program history on Saturday, winning its third consecutive outright Mid-American Conference championship.
In a must-win game on senior day, the Rockets weren’t going to let a slow start impede their preseason goal. All summer and again in September when UT reconvened for practice, the conversation was about winning a third straight conference title.
Toledo would do so with a victory against Kent State on Saturday, but the Golden Flashes proved a worthy adversary when they raced out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter. But as Toledo does so often, especially at home, it narrowed the deficit and zoomed past Kent, 83-61, to capture a program-record third straight MAC title.
