CLEVELAND — Here are updates from Friday’s University of Toledo men’s basketball Mid-American Conference semifinal game against Akron.
FIRST HALF
Toledo has work to do in order to avoid a semifinal exit.
Fourth-seeded Akron has carved through No. 1-seeded Toledo’s defense nearly at will, resulting in a 38-28 Zips lead at halftime inside Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
The Zips went on a 13-4 scoring run to come out with a 30-18 advantage — its largest lead of the half to that point — with 5:48 remaining. Akron took a 38-23 lead with 1:19 left after a jumper and a pair of free throws from Ali Ali and an inside bucket from Enrique Freeman.
