Frustrated Toledo men's basketball unravels at Akron

AKRON — The first half of Tuesday’s Toledo-Akron game ended with a flurry of whistles.

It started with a common foul on Akron guard Shammah Scott, who let officials know he was unhappy with the call. He was assessed a technical foul, which set off Akron coach John Groce, who had been jawing with Bill Ek, Todd Van Sossen, and Kevin Brill throughout the first half.

Brill T’ed up Groce, and the Rockets made five of six free throws for a 12-point halftime lead.

In the visitors’ locker room, UT coach Tod Kowalczyk told his team that Akron would come out with a vengeance and fouls would be called.
