Eight Toledo men’s basketball players scored and four reached double figures in a full team effort to extinguish Detroit Mercy 81-73 in the home opener at Savage Arena on Saturday.
For the second straight game, UT held the opposition scoreless in the final three minutes of the first half. Toledo trailed 25-21, outsourcing Detroit 22-14 the rest of the half. The Titans were five for their final 15 after starting the game eight for 15.
The Rockets had a 43-35 halftime lead despite Detroit’s seven threes to Toledo’s three. They made up the difference with nine offensive rebounds and a 16-3 advantage in second-chance points.
