Former University of Toledo baseball star Mitch Maier has traded cleats and caps for suits and ties, and the new role fits just fine.
Maier has reached the highest level of baseball, becoming a major league outfielder at 24. He turned his experience with the Kansas City Royals into a coaching stint for the organization, serving as first-base coach. Now, Maier is working for the front office that once drafted him out of Toledo. He is nearing the end of his first season overseeing Kansas City’s minor league system as the director of player development/field coordinator.
From 2019 to 2021, Maier served as the Royals’ director of baseball operations.
