Former Toledo running back Harvey “Scooter” McDougle Jr., was found dead on Tuesday. According to a University of Toledo representative, the cause of death was heart failure. McDougle was 37.
In 2004, he led the Rockets with 620 yards and seven touchdowns. McDougle rushed for 167 yards in a 35-27 victory over Miami in the MAC championship game. A knee injury suffered on his final carry of the game derailed his career.
McDougle appeared in just two games during the 2005 season and rushed for 49 yards on eight carries in 2006.
McDougle and two other UT athletes were convicted in 2011 in a point-shaving scandal that involved the football and men’s basketball programs.
