CLEVELAND — The University of Toledo women’s basketball program is 40 minutes from its second NCAA tournament berth in the last three seasons.
On Friday afternoon, the Rockets turned on the afterburners to race past Buffalo 56-49 in a sometimes difficult-to-watch Mid-American Conference tournament semifinal.
Toledo shot 5 for 24 in the first half, scored two points during a disastrous second quarter, and trailed 20-13 at halftime. But continuing with a season-long trend, UT played its best in the third quarter and held off a potential fourth-quarter rally.
“I think adversity pays dividends in the postseason, and we were ready to go today with a great response that second half,” said Toledo coach Ginny Boggess, whose team plays top-seeded Ball State at 11 a.
