Each week Judge Culpepper sits in front of a screen, intently watching an opposing offensive line to pick up on tendencies and traits.
The University of Toledo defensive tackle then tailors his game for that week’s opponent.
So far, it’s working.
Through one month of the season, Culpepper ranks fifth nationally with five sacks, 2½ behind the nation’s leader, Utah defensive end Jonah Elliss. Culpepper’s 5½ tackles for loss are the fourth-most in the Mid-American Conference.
“It’s a lot more film study, [defensive line] coach [Frank] Okam has really helped me out,” Culpepper said. “He’s a smart dude.
