The fifth-year point guard scored a game-high 21 points Wednesday, helping guide the Rockets to a 72-52 win over Northern Illinois on a night when both teams shot worse than 36 percent.
Wiard — who’s played in 140 games and been on the court for 4,327 minutes — had 15 points in the first half and finished with six rebounds, two steals, and a team-best plus-23. Since Quinesha Lockett’s injury at Oakland in December, Wiard has averaged 19.
