As far as assistant coaching transactions in the Mid-American Conference go, the Toledo football team’s hire of Vince Kehres is a bombshell.
This isn’t the usual hey-Google up-and-comer or a recycled veteran. (Who said schools don’t care about their carbon footprint?)
No, this is one of the billboard names in Ohio football.
Kehres, 43, is the scion of the Mount Union dynasty built by his Hall of Fame father, Larry, and a first-rate coach in his own right. Since succeeding his old man in the lead chair, he’s guided the Purple Raiders for more seasons (seven) than he has losses (six) and led them to two Division III national championships.
