Briggs: Toledo athletics honored for doing more with less. Can it do more with ... more?

The University of Toledo almost won something called the Excellence in Management Cup, an honor created by a professor at Texas A&M to recognize the college athletic department that best maximizes its fiscal resources.

I hadn’t heard of this award, but it raises a couple good questions.

First, can we enjoy the irony that someone from Texas A&M — the school that just bought out football coach Jimbo Fisher for $78 million — is raising a glass to efficiency. That would be like a guy who works at a slaughterhouse inventing the Tofu Cup to salute the best vegan dish.
