Marreon Jackson had a confession.
“I’m going to be honest,” the Toledo basketball star said. “I’ve never voted.”
In fact, between school and hoops — which amounted to two full-time jobs during the season — Jackson, a 21-year-old senior from Garfield Heights near Cleveland, had never thought much about politics at all.
The player who dazzled on the court was a spectator off of it.
“I was just being a kid,” he said.
This year, Jackson has plans to change that.
Maybe the world, too.
So he registered to vote in the upcoming election, as did all of his teammates who were previously unregistered.
