Briggs: 'Angry' Toledo basketball team is rolling and running toward ghosts of March past

Water is wet, the sky is blue, and — deja vu — the Toledo men’s basketball team is exceeding preseason expectations.

On the eve of Groundhog Day, the Rockets were at it again Saturday, holding on for an 89-85 win over Northern Illinois at Savage Arena.

Incredibly, another deftly reloaded roster is in the mix for a fifth straight regular-season Mid-American Conference championship. Toledo (13-8, 7-2) is two games behind first-place Akron.

“We’ve put ourselves in position to play in big February games,” coach Tod Kowalczyk said. “That’s fun.”

Now, what about March?
