College athletics has entered another round of realignment.
Or did it never end?
Since the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC began a game of musical chairs in 2011, it seems like realignment has been as constant as quibbling about the NCAA tournament selection committee.
The Big Ten sparked an earthquake across the college sports landscape two weeks ago when it pried USC and UCLA away from their nearly century-old home in the Pac-12. Texas and Oklahoma’s move from the Big 12 to the SEC was the dominant storyline last summer, and it had reverberations all the way down to the Mid-American Conference, as Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State nearly became the 13th and 14th members.
